Join us for an evening conversation with investigative journalist Marina Walker Guevara, who shared the 2017 Pulitzer Prize in Explanatory Reporting for the investigation behind one of history’s largest data leaks. Learn more about how Marina led a team of hundreds of journalists from 107 media organizations in more than 80 countries to unravel the Panama and Paradise papers, exposing the offshore financial dealings of some of the world's biggest corporations and wealthiest people.
As the Deputy Director of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, Marina and her team have led dozens of investigations, with the most recent one into the medical device industry. Marina will also share more about her latest project: As a John S. Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford University, she is exploring how technology might help investigative journalists find patterns and stories in terabytes of messy data.
This event is part of a monthly event series organized jointly by SAP Bay Area and HanaHaus. Each event will bring together pioneers and thought leaders of Silicon Valley to discuss significant trends in the areas of entrepreneurship, venture capital, and technology.

Deputy Director of the International Consortium of Investigate Journalists
Marina Walker Guevara is the deputy director of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ). She managed the two largest collaborations of reporters in journalism history: the Panama Papers and the Paradise Papers. Both investigations involved hundreds of journalists using technology to unravel stories of public interest from terabytes of leaked financial data.
Before becoming an editor, Walker Guevara investigated environmental degradation by mining companies, cigarette smuggling by leading tobacco firms and the shadowy world of offshore finance. Her story “Children of Lead” revealed a public health crisis in a Peruvian town caused by an American-owned lead smelting company. She has won and shared more than 40 national and international awards, including a Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting. She earned a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri and also graduated from the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo. She is a native of Mendoza, Argentina.
